AVEVA and IFS partner to enhance AI-driven asset decision-making

AVEVA and IFS have announced a strategic technology partnership aimed at helping industrial organisations improve asset performance by connecting operational intelligence with enterprise execution and capital planning.

The collaboration, unveiled by AVEVA CEO Caspar Herzberg and IFS CEO Mark Moffat at AVEVA World in Milan, introduces Continuous Asset Decision Intelligence, a new solution designed to combine real-time operational and asset data with maintenance, investment and planning information. The objective is to enable faster, evidence-based decisions across the entire asset lifecycle.

The joint offering addresses a common challenge faced by asset-intensive industries, where operational data is often separated from maintenance records, workforce planning, spare parts inventories and capital investment strategies. This disconnect can delay decision-making and reduce operational efficiency.

By integrating these data sources into a single decision workflow, the solution enables engineers, maintenance planners and operations teams to evaluate equipment performance, maintenance history, asset criticality and investment priorities simultaneously. Organisations can then determine whether assets should be repaired, deferred or replaced based on real-time operational conditions and historical performance.

According to Herzberg, the partnership gives industrial organisations a more complete view of their operations, enabling data to flow seamlessly from the plant floor to executive decision-makers while making AI-driven insights more practical for day-to-day operations.

Moffat said the integration combines AVEVA’s operational intelligence with IFS’s enterprise asset management capabilities, allowing customers to make more informed decisions about maintenance, workforce deployment and long-term capital planning.

Industry analysts also view the collaboration as a significant step towards closing the gap between operational insights and business execution. Jeffrey Hojlo, Research Vice President at IDC, said the partnership creates a digital thread connecting production, enterprise systems and edge operations, providing a foundation for generative, predictive and agentic AI to improve planning, knowledge sharing and risk management.

Craig Resnick, Vice President at ARC Advisory Group, added that the integrated approach provides organisations with an auditable chain linking asset conditions to operational decisions and measurable outcomes, an increasingly important requirement for regulators, investors and corporate governance.

One practical application highlighted by the companies involves utility operators managing large fleets of substations. The solution can detect transformer anomalies through operational data, automatically combine this information with maintenance records, spare parts availability, workforce capacity, outage schedules and capital programmes, and recommend the most appropriate course of action based on enterprise-wide priorities rather than isolated site conditions.

AVEVA and IFS said the partnership is expected to deliver several business benefits, including improved capital allocation through risk-based investment decisions, enhanced equipment reliability using predictive maintenance strategies, faster response times to asset issues, simplified IT and operational technology integration, and stronger regulatory compliance through continuous, auditable records of asset decisions and performance.

The companies plan to demonstrate the Continuous Asset Decision Intelligence solution at AVEVA World in Milan before making it available to customers through future deployments.
