Japanese construction equipment manufacturer Morooka has introduced its latest rotating crawler carrier, the MST160CR, featuring higher travel speeds, improved operator technology and enhanced durability for heavy-duty construction, infrastructure and utility projects.
The new machine, unveiled during ConExpo 2026, has been designed to improve productivity on challenging worksites where low ground pressure, high payload capacity and excellent manoeuvrability are essential.
Powered by a 306-horsepower Caterpillar C7.1 Tier 4 Final engine, the MST160CR delivers a maximum payload of 16 tonnes (35,274 lb) while offering a 360-degree rotating dump bed, enabling faster material placement and reducing the need for repositioning during loading and unloading operations.
One of the machine’s standout features is its top travel speed of 13 km/h (8.1 mph), making it one of the fastest crawler carriers in its class. Despite its high carrying capacity, the compact design allows easier transportation between project sites while improving mobility in confined working environments.
Morooka has equipped the carrier with several intelligent technologies to improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime. These include an automatic engine deceleration system that lowers engine speed during idle periods to reduce fuel consumption, as well as an anti-stall hydraulic control system that automatically adjusts hydraulic flow when handling heavy loads.
The machine also features an electronically controlled joystick that provides more intuitive operation by ensuring travel direction always corresponds with joystick movement, improving precision and reducing operator fatigue.
To further enhance productivity, the MST160CR incorporates an onboard overload prevention weighing system, enabling operators to estimate payloads at the push of a button using hydraulic pressure data. Safety has also been improved through a ROPS/FOPS-certified cab, LED work lighting and an integrated 360-degree camera system providing a bird’s-eye view of the machine during operation.
Durability has been strengthened through the use of Hardox wear-resistant steel on the dump body and an upgraded undercarriage designed for extended service life under demanding site conditions.
